Get You a Friend Like Nora
The process of doing laundry
At the very beginning of the year, when we were given our laundry cards, I always dreaded doing laundry. Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I did not DREAM of SEPARATING my clothes no-no-no. Especially because we have a limited amount of money to do loads of laundry.
Anyway, I dreaded doing laundry alone. I would have to put all my dirty stuff in a bad, grab the detergent that’s sticky because you spilled it earlier in the week and didn’t tell anybody, and head to the laundry room with crossed fingers in hope that there was an open machine. There’s normally never a machine open, but sometimes you get lucky.
Up until today, that was my process. Do something you don’t want to do, but do it filled with hope. Now, I have a girl named Nora on my floor, and she is my best friend. Believe me when I tell you that her life revolves around laundry. On the afternoon of February 6th, I needed to do laundry for a beach trip that we’re going on this weekend. Nora said, “let’s do laundry,” so I and my other best friend Kyleigh joined her. Nora had us separate our laundry and put each section into our bags. For example, my bag had the darks, Kyleigh’s had the towels, and Nora’s bag had the whites/lights. We then all took our bags to the laundry room cracking jokes and laughing.
Fast forward to us moving the wet clothes to the dryer, Nora decides to see if she can FIT in the drier. In case you were wondering, she can get about waist deep. As of right now, we are all sitting in mine and Kyleigh’s room, listening to music and talking about crying after watching The Boy In the Striped Pajamas.
The bottom line is, this process is the best because it is done with the people that make my life worth living. If there is a lesson in the midst of this story it is this: do something you dread with friends, and get you a friend like Nora.
